Major Javed Akhtar Khan was an expert mountaineer and became first Pakistani to summit a “major” peak, when he reached atop Masherbrum (7821 metres), also called K1, on July 8th, 1960. For this notable achievement, he was awarded the President’s Pride of Performance Award in 1961
